: We begin our musical fall journey with a great opening show. Even the slight negatives on paper were really positives.

: What a great show this is. Listening to it, I seemed to find myself comparing it to the 8/12/2006 show at Red Rocks (aka "The Day The Music Ended, Part 2"). Just has a similar feel and swagger to it. Hard hitting from the start. The boys come out of the chute with their first ever attempt at the classic 3 Snakes opener One Mirror Too Many. It's like they'd played it 100 times before -- smooth yet forceful. They followed this up with a monster version of A Conspiracy. Chris is really into this show -- you can tell that immediately. Lots of passion in his voice. Up next is a great jam into Bring On. Oh how I miss this jam and song. I will never tire of it. Hotel Illness is next and this is another song that I cannot get enough of. Straight forward version, but great nonetheless. Ballad follows and is its usual soulful self. Bruce Kaphan joins in for Wiser and wow, what a version. The guitar work on this is just killer. I must admit I sometimes grow tired of this song, but not this version. Just great interplay. Not too familiar with Kaphan (http://www.brucekaphan.com/) but he seems like an accomplished musician and fit in very well on this evening. Next up is a straight up and solid version of Sting Me. Nothing out of the ordinary, just quality rock and roll. For the first cover of the tour they then roll out the classic Big Time. No explanations or banter from Chris, just gets right into it and seems to really lay it all out there for this song. Great version. They bring Kaphan back out for Pawnshop, which is a nice change of pace tune for this set. Now Blackberry has never been one of my favorite TBC songs -- far from it. But this version has a great little funk jam intro that isn't even mentioned in Crowesbase. Marc is really wailing in this version -- maybe the best I've ever heard. They close the main set with a nice, prolonged, funky version of H2H. Great stuff. The encore of 2xH, Sister and Remedy is a great right-left-right combination to end the show. Again, little banter or distraction here -- just solid versions by the band, who seemed to really be on a mission this evening.
: All in all, a great, great show. Slight "paper" negatives with the 120 length (short by 2005-06 standards) and Blackberry, but that's all it is -- paper, as people at this show certainly got their money's worth.
: Tomorrow we'll pick it up with the 9/21/96 Reno show.
