It all depends on what version of history you subscribe to. You could make a strong argument that it ended in any one of the following years -- 2010, 2009, 2006, 2001, 1998, 1997. I guess they spent their nine lives.
What's fairly clear is that 2013 was a joke. That's not to say that there weren't probably some really good shows, it's just to say that they were just a live band picking up a check, as opposed to a band building toward being better every day and creating new things together. There were obviously varying degrees of that over the years, and it would take volumes to work through it all.
But even though the ship had probably sailed at least 4-5 years ago, there was something about this round of "fuck yous" that felt different. Something uglier. I've always felt like Steve was a decent barometer -- his willingness to get in the mud is significant. This feels like "fuck you forever".
: I'll say it again since no one else has yet.
: It's been over for a very long time.
: What we lost yesterday was the best TBC cover band around. Yes, I have enjoyed hearing them play, to a degree, a high degree even. I am not surprised by yesterday's events of dramatizing that which has not worthy of it, for the whateverth time. It's not news. When they need the money, they'll be back in whatever respect it turns out to be. You'll have your cover band back.
: Fuck you Amy Finkle.
: The requiem sharing is great. In my opinion, The Black Crowes touched the surface of and WERE in fact real rock n' roll. Astounding. Thirty years after rock had died, these guys were the real deal. It was, for about five years. We're very thankful for it. You're welcome Steve.
