Although I briefly met him once, he was always very nice to me via any brief correspondence we had. He seemed like a genuinely kind person.
Looking back on it, his legacy is connected to really of our passion for a band I once really loved. He is likely responsible for a lot of the special pieces of music we were able to get our hands on, and you could tell his enjoyment of it was just like ours as the shepherd of it all.
Some 25 years ago, Boa was one of a bunch of folks who went out of their way to help get my live music collection started, but he really was the one who carried the torch for those who wanted to recapture the band's music over and over. He leaves quite the legacy.
I vividly remember him sending me shows early on to help build my collection up and back in '99 when I was a bit disenchanted with the band's direction, he helped push me along into the world of the Dead, where I remember him adding in a St. Louis '77 show in with a package he'd sent. I still remember the version of Ship Of Fools being a track from that show which really got me. It was a nice touch with someone who was looking to dig a bit deeper into other bands' live shows and learn a bit more about the catalog.
Anyway, I didn't know him well like you and some others, but my condolences to his family and friends, as the world needs more people like Boa.
